Lodge Communication Improvements
From Seth Truitt, Vice
Chief of Administration IT: The Lodge hosted our annual LLDC, or Lodge
Leadership Development Course on January 21, 2012. Among the hot topics of
discussion were the new Journey to Excellence Program and improving Lodge
communication. I would like to introduce you to a couple of things
regarding the Communication of the Lodge. Because the Lodge newsletter
costs a great sum of money to produce and is thrown away by many people, we
decided that we should go with a means of communication that would be more
effective and reach out to those Arrowmen who don't come to events currently.
1. Text Message Alerts
The Lodge will start to use text alerts to remind you of upcoming lodge and section/national events. To get these alerts, text "Follow MaNuLodge" to 40404. Although this text alert system is done through Twitter, Following the lodge does not give you a Twitter account or any obligation to get one. Basically, all "Tweets" by the lodge will be forwarded to your texting inbox. You should receive a message saying that you are now following MaNu Lodge, followed by a message that says "Tweet Test", which is our first tweet to test out the new system. The first people who tried this out said the system worked flawlessly.
2. eNewsletter
Just like the Council eNewsletter, the upcoming editions of Spirit of the Buffalo will be emailed instead of printed. It will also be available on this website.
3. Facebook Events
Using the lodge Facebook page, we plan to put our events there with all the information and an RSVP system.
4. Automated Calling Systems
This will call all Arrowmen and give them the same message, either over phone or voicemail.
5. eMeetings
Why would we drive several hours to get to an LEC meeting? We are trying to implement eMeeting, or meetings over computers with a Skype-like atmosphere with the ability to share documents, etc. This will save time and money.
Our main goal with these
new implementations are that we reach out to those not active in the OA,
something not capable with the regular Newsletter. TELL ALL ARROWMEN ABOUT
THIS!!! We can't go to every person's house and ask them to get our text
updates. Please help spread the word to your troop and chapter about this
- it is your duty as an Arrowman. This is just the first step in a
successful year in the Lodge - something that begins with membership retention,
the purpose of these implementations.
Note: The five things listed above are in order of how far along the processes
are. For instance, we have already implemented the first two, are about to
implement the third, and are still heavily researching the fourth and fifth.
Thanks for your dedication to reading this. We hope and expect that all
Arrowmen in the Lodge know about these implementations so spread the word!

Pay Your 2012 OA Dues Online
The link below is the web address for the lodge's 2012 online dues payment system. Your 2012 dues were payable by December 31, 2011, so please take care of this as soon as possible if you haven't already. The online process is simple: Answer a few questions and enter a credit card number at the end. The goal of this link is to provide a secure and convenient option for our membership to pay their dues. We also hope to reduce the amount of membership lost to non-payment of dues, and to keep youth active longer in the BSA. We hope this system will also help the lodge collect updated, correct, contact information.

Fall Fellowship was held at Slippery Ralls Scout Ranch on October 14-16, 2011. This weekend is generally regarded as the biggest and best event of the year. This year we relaxed and celebrated our hard work over the past year. There were training classes on patch trading, leatherworking, photography and Indian regalia, and in the afternoon there was blackpowder rifle, shotgun, .22 rifle, archery, a triathlon, climbing and rappelling. The entire weekend was capped off by great food, and tons of good fellowship. We had three Ordeal members seal their membership by completing their Brotherhood. As is tradition at Fall Fellowship, new Vigil members were called out, and the lodge officers for the next year were elected. The following Vigil candidates were called out:

Brotherhood Evening was September 17 at John Nichols
As a special effort toward our goal of 30% Brotherhood conversion, MaNu Lodge offered a Brotherhood Evening at Eagle Lodge, John Nichols Scout Reservation on September 17, 2011. Dinner was served, followed by a special Brotherhood Ceremony for eligible candidates. Despite threatening weather that forced the ceremony into the OA Hut, thirteen candidates sealed their Brotherhood.
Hot Fall Ordeal at John Nichols Scout Ranch August 26-28
An Ordeal was conducted at John Nichols Scout Ranch from August 26-28. Eighty new members and 23 Elangomats endured a real Ordeal in 108° temperatures. Thank them all for their beyond normal effort and service to this council camp.
Spring Ordeal: Making Slippery Falls Ready for Summer Camp
Spring Ordeal was held May 20-22, 2011 at Slippery Falls Scout Ranch. The lodge had over 130 newly elected candidates complete their induction into the Order of the Arrow. It was also a great opportunity for more than 20 of our Ordeal Members to seal their membership by completing their Brotherhood. There were numerous member projects accomplished, including fencing in the horse pasture and demolishing the old east-side shower facility. In addition to the induction and service aspects of the Ordeal, both members and new members enjoyed great food, fun and fellowship.
OA Takes the Lead During Work Weekend at Dripping Springs
An OA Work Weekend was held on March 25-27, 2011 at Dripping Springs Camp near Clinton, OK. As always for our camps, there was much work required to prepare it for spring and summer outdoor activities. Although not strictly an OA project, this work day was sponsored and mostly funded by MaNu Lodge as a service to our council. Although it was a cold weekend, more than 130 Scouts and Scouters participated. Saturday evening we were treated to a scrumptious dinner of hand-breaded chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, green beans and salad. Later that evening, nineteen Arrowmen sealed their Brotherhood in the Lodge.
