MaNu Lodge Arrowcorps5 Participation
Still searching for that over the top high-adventure experience for your older Scouts? The Boy Scouts of Americas National Honor Society, the Order of the Arrow (OA), will conduct its largest national service project since World War II. In partnership with the U.S. Forest Service (USFS), the service project called, ArrowCorps5, will be conducted at five U.S. Forest Service sites across the country, over five weeks during the summer of 2008. This service project will include 5,000 members of the Order of the Arrow providing more than 250,000 hours of service.
"ArrowCorps5 is the largest, most complex, most challenging conservation project ever conceived by the OA and Boy Scouts of America," said Brad Haddock, chairman, National Order of the Arrow Committee. "This project provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for each participant to set an example of leadership in service to those who treasure our national forests."
The USFS sites selected for this project include: Mark Twain, Missouri; Manti-La Sal, Utah; George Washington & Jefferson, Virginia; Shasta-Trinity, California; Bridger-Teton, Wyoming. The USFS has valued the service labor that will be provided by the ArrowCorps5 participants at approximately $5 million. This work would not have otherwise been able to be completed due to budget limitations.
ArrowCorps5 presents an opportunity for Arrowman (youth and adults) who are at least 14-years old and meet the Philmont weight/height restrictions to make significant and positive impacts on their national forests. MaNu Lodge is leading a delegation to ArrowCorps5: June 7-14, 2008, Mark Twain National Forest. Service project work will include grassland restoration, invasive plant and tree removal, trail construction and maintenance, bridge work, campsite improvements, erosion and weed control, and fence removal. Each site will also have specific recreational activities for participants each day, in addition to a full-day of local activities such as fishing, white water rafting and visits to nearby attractions.
Initial registration with $100.00 deposit is due ASAP. Arrowman Unit Service Award (AUSA)
The MaNu Lodge AUSA award is a special lodge flap with a gold border. It recognizes Arrowmen for fulfilling their first obligation in the OA to provide leadership and service to the Scouts of their unit, and to strive to develop and fulfill their obligation by living the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. To earn the Arrowmen Unit Service Award (AUSA), an Arrowman must complete a minimum of three requirements from each of the following areas in any single calendar year: Leadership Development, Camping and Unit Service, and Leadership in Service. Progress is documented on the appropriate AUSA form (youth or adult). All requirements must be completed between January 1 and December 31 of a single calendar year. When these requirements have been completed, a youth Arrowman must participate in a Scoutmaster Conference (similar to that required for Scout rank advancement), and an adult Arrowmen must secure the approval of the Unit Committee Chairman. The completed form must be signed by the appropriate unit leader, and an OA chapter officer (youth) or adviser (adults). Mail completed forms to Michael Stearman, 2601 N. Broadway Avenue, Shawnee, OK 74801. You can also download the forms here:

Lodge-wide Discussion Group is Online
A lodge-wide discussion group helps to get the word out about Ma~Nu activities. In early 2005, everyone who had provided an e-mail address to the lodge was pre-subscribed. If you are not receiving discussion group e-mails, you can subscribe by following the link below. There is also a link to the FAQ where you learn how to send an e-mail for distribution to the group. This is a moderated list, so that means a lodge officer will approve all correspondance before it passes through the system. This could result in delays sending out your message; so please plan accordingly.
Lodge Banquet: A Great Evening of Celebration and Fine Food!
The MaNu Lodge held its annual banquet at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church in Norman on Saturday evening, January 5th, 2008. At this banquet we recognized those Arrowmen who had given outstanding service during the past year. In addition to the installation of new lodge and chapter officers, many special recognitions were made, including chapter officer and adviser recognitions, lodge committee chairmen, event chairmen and new Vigil Honor members. MaNu Lodge annual awards were also be presented, including the White Buffalo award, the Miller "Pat" Patterson award, and the Bill George award. Our highest award, the Founder's Award, was presented to Matt Glass, Andrew Burum and Tom Huibregste. We had a great evening of celebration and fine food!
Another Great Event: Fall Fellowship at SFSR
Over 150 MaNu Arrowmen enjoyed a great time at the Fall Fellowship held October 19-21, 2007 at Slippery Falls Scout Ranch. They traded patches, made soapstone Indian pipes and leather arrowhead neckerchief slides, shot blackpowder and archery, learned and practiced ceremonies and Indian dances, threw tomahawks, ran for the arrow around Lake Payne, polished their LNT skills, and studied life as a mountain man. As if that wasn't enough, we ate outstanding food the entire weekend, including scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, sausage, a sandwich bar, homemade soup, a salad bar, roast beef (started on Friday night and cooked until it fell apart), mashed potatoes and gravy, breakfast casserole and a Saturday evening crackerbarrel of ice cream. No one wanted for delicious food! In addition, eight MaNu arrowmen completed their Brotherhood, and seventeen completed Bowstring. That evening the Vigil call-out ceremony was held. On Sunday morning an LEC was held and the 2008 lodge officers were elected. Everyone had a super time!
Spring Ordeal May 18-20 at SFSR Huge Success

It provided the opportunity for 118 newly elected candidates to complete their induction into the Order of the Arrow. We also had 27 Ordeal members seal their membership by completing their Brotherhood. There were numerous projects and activities, including cleaning the campsites, setting up wall tents, painting a fence and repairing a bridge. In addition to the induction and service aspects of the Ordeal, everyone enjoyed great food, fun and fellowship.
