Spring Ordeal was held May 15-17 at Slippery Falls Scout Ranch. The Ordeal administration team led by Brin Fair from CT chapter, and staffed primarily with youth from BP chapter, did a superb job of planning and conducting the event. The youth were advised by a team of hard-working adults primarily from BP Chapter led by Cindy Rogers (Chapter adviser). This was one of the best planned and most efficiently executed Ordeals in recent memory. Activities were well-managed, and the versatility of the teams allowed for tasks to be accomplished, even with the advent of hazardous weather and less than ideal conditions. Approximately 125 current lodge members and a number of guests attended. 112 new members were inducted, and 37 members sealed their Brotherhood. Check-in and Ordeal operations were conducted in the new Welcome Center/Program Building. Service projects for candidates and members were affected because many areas of camp were not easily accessible due to the softness off the ground. Vehicles became stuck in the soft ground very easily. A total of 28 large trailer loads of brush and limbs were cleared from the areas where power lines had been installed. Seven of the loads were run through a wood chipper, and these chips were spread in the seating and aisle areas of the council fire ring. The remainder of the loads were piled across from the climbing barn. A total of 24 tent platform sections were constructed from materials supplied by the camp. The sections were moved into a campsite and will make the placement of 12 tents possible when the necessary concrete blocks are placed under the platforms. A variety of other small maintenance and cleanup operations were completed. A "New Member" Orientation/Welcome was conducted after dinner Saturday evening.
